just watch

Here I am, sticking to my word. It's time to have some fun. Check out the recent skit performed on Saturday Night Live, which pokes fun at advertisements for oral contraceptives that promise to reduce the frequency of visits from Aunt Flo. It is hilarious. The big picture? The skit sheds light on an industry gone overboard. And I love it.

I remember when me and Ellen first met. I was working the overnight maintenance shift at the hospital and she was doing the books for some auto insurance place in Midland. At first, we'd just get together with Kenny and Martha at The Silver Fox. You know, have a few drinks and shoot the shit. Then one thing led to another (and another and another) and before I knew what happened, me and Ellen were living in Portland with a baby on the way. I remember that tiny one bedroom. It was nice - had a little fireplace and everything - but it was too small to handle what me and Ellen brought into it...But Ellen back then, Jesus, she was something else. A true Irish girl, wild temper and all. But I loved her. More than anything. Kenny used to come up and visit (him and Martha were done by then) and we'd go out together, the three of us, and Kenny would talk about how me and Ellen were such a great fit. How we were meant for each other. And it really felt like that. It really did. It was around this time that we took ballroom dancing lessons at the adult school - you should have seen her. I mean, sometimes we'd switch partners, you know, and I could look across the room and see her dancing with someone else. She never looked more beautiful. Her hair was real long back then, and she was taking that yoga class for pregnant women, and my heart was on fire every time I saw her...

I miss Tina Fey. I think the Fey, Poehler, Rudolph trifecta was one of the strongest comedy teams in recent memory. Here is a similar video featuring the same trio. This times they are poking fun at advertisements for feminine hygeine products (and the roomba).

When Mary got ill we all had to take a step back. To Lionel, Rebecca, and I, she was our everything. Knowing she was in pain hurt too. Luckily for us things got better. Mary began spending more time with us, made a full recovery, and truly reentered our lives. Things are great now, but it still pains me to think back on that trying time.

When we were out at sea, we came across some tough times. No water, three of us all in a tub, you get the idea.

A lot of industry drama with the DTC (direct to consumer) pharma advertising these days....Pfizer just pulled a Lipitor ad with Dr. Jarvik (the artificial heart guy) off the air because of criticism that he's not actually qualified to endorse it. Also, there is talk that the FDA could soon be responsible for reviewing drug ads to make sure they are not misleading consumers. Anyway...got to love SNL, and it's even funnier when you watch the real commercial they are mocking!

kdh...soooo funny. this really shows how these "health" messages can be taken to the extreme and how the advertising industry tries to capitalize on how it's more "fun" and "normal" to NOT have your period...until the consequences hit!!! why do we try to manipulate everything? anything NATURAL is deemed wrong. kudos for the ridicule of manipulation of nature to be fun and cool.
